Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign

When the Invisalign system was developed in the early 90s, it paved the way for an entirely new type of dentistry – one that didn’t require metal brackets and wires to straighten teeth. Instead of relying on brackets and wires, the system uses a series of custom-made aligners that gradually realign the teeth over time. They are made of smooth BPA-free plastic, making them almost invisible when worn. Each aligner is custom-made to fit the patient’s mouth and is swapped out for a new set as treatment progresses. The patient is able to remove the aligners to eat and clean their teeth, meaning there are no food restrictions or wire adjustments required during the course of care.

How Do They Work?

The process works by using a series of personalized aligners that fit snugly over your teeth and gradually move them into the right position. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and then replaced with the next set in the series to continue the process until teeth are straightened. Your dentist will work with you to develop a treatment plan, and your treatment will be mapped out in advance so you can see what your smile will look like at the end of treatment. You’ll also receive care instructions to help you stay on track with your progress.

Every two weeks or so, you’ll visit our office so your doctor can check on your progress. They’ll show your new set of aligners and make sure you’re ready for the next step in your treatment plan. Treatment length can vary depending on your specific case, but the average time for patients is about one year. That’s about the same amount of time as traditional orthodontic methods - plus, you won’t have braces or metal wires to deal with!

What Are the Advantages of Invisalign?

Braces move teeth through pressure. Invisalign uses a series of clear aligners that gradually shift your teeth into place, eliminating the need for metal brackets and wires.

Invisalign is a convenient and discreet way to straighten your teeth. It consists of a series of custom-made, clear, plastic aligners that fit over your teeth. The aligners exert pressure to realign your teeth over time. Invisalign braces are removable for eating, brushing, and flossing. This provides you with greater freedom to enjoy your favorite foods and maintain good oral hygiene habits while undergoing orthodontic treatment.
